No Surprise Here: Music Industry Now Likes Podcasting

We’ve heard isolated stories about major labels granting the rights of their artists’ songs to certain podcasters, and here’s a nice WSJ story on it.  People aren’t exactly sure where to find new music these days as commercial radio does little to fill this role, and podcasting as a new medium lends itself well to the discovery of new music. Good quote from the article:

Ted Cohen, a digital-media strategist who for many years was an executive at EMI Group PLC, says that keeping up-and-coming artists “protected” from use in podcasts has often backfired. “We’ve protected them so well nobody knows they exist,” he quips.
