I love these sorts of projects, even if I rarely take the time to do them. I think this would be fairly easy — just a bit a solder, some bits and pieces and a prototyping board. From Make Magazine, here’s a PDF that tells you how to make an amplifier for your headphones (these, perhaps?) out of any little tin can thing.
Then just let the goodness pour into your ear holes …
