Daylife, Automated News Engine, Funded by New York Times Company

Daylife, a news recommendation and organization system spawned from the head of the founder of Firefly, a recommendation system purchased by Microsoft in the late ’90s, has been funded by some big wigs including the NYTC.  Daylife, which is supposedly mostly automated and is based on RSS, will attempt to arrange news items for users based on what’s relevant to them.  Looks like a great move for the NYTC in staying on the cutting edge of how consumers want to consume not just news but all content (quick digestion from multiple sources).  We’ll see how the New York Times and other NYTC properties are integrated and showcased within Daylife, but it’s smart for the NYTC to recognize that consumers won’t be satisfied with just one or a limited selection of news providers.
