Choosing My Own Adventure

choose your own adventureI didn’t make the connection until recently: many of the recent ideas I’ve entertained for creative projects seem to relate to the Choose Your Own Adventure series that I grew up with. I was obsessed with that series, and forgot that I was until recently; it was interactive storytelling at it’s finest, with multiple paths and multiple endings, a fine way to make your own media long before Web 2.0 ethos sprang on the scene (sure, there was a puported “correct” ending where the protagonist succeeds in the best way possible, but I was often just as intrigued by the false endings and random dead ends that could be had). But if multiple writers were part of the same story — wow, what amazing combinations and twists and turns and finales could be had! Something good must come out of this nugget …
