Teaming Up to Compete Against ‘Free’

Sirius and XM, yes, they’re trying to get together.  Even if Siriuxsm (Sirxiusm?  Smirixus? — you know, one of those portmanteaux) can get over the antitrust hurdle, their merger doesn’t seem to bode well for the current satellite radio industry.  Satellite Internet in the auto can’t be that far away, can it?  Then Web radio, the free stuff with limitless variety, will be there for the taking.  Not to mention the on-demand stuff (music, podcasts, etc.) already available.  Too much quality media can be consumed for free these days.  Is there any going back?
