Yeah, it’s about time. I’m not sure why it takes Apple so long to add radio stations to their iTunes directory — getting WZBC added was a multi-year process. But evidently within the past few months a college broadcasting organization convinced Apple to add a college radio category in their list of streams and the sleeping giant awoke and started accepting submissions.
This year will see a rebirth of Internet radio with all these new wi-fi portable radios for the home being produced/released. I just scored one from Freecom, just available in the states now, and it’s cheap ($140) and easy to set up and use. WZBC was pre-loaded under my Local folder, along with most every other “good” public and community station in the Boston area (except for WMBR, MIT’s station … not sure why they’re not showing up, but I did find them when browsing all stations by call letters).
